Sony's retractable APS-C kit zoom, ultra-compact for the A6000 series.
The Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS PZ is the standard kit lens for Sony's APS-C mirrorless cameras including the A6000-series. With a motorised power zoom and retractable design, it is one of the most compact kit zooms ever made. It replaced the larger E 18-55mm as the default bundle lens.
Optical quality is adequate with decent centre sharpness but soft corners, particularly at 16mm. The power zoom mechanism is smooth for video panning but slower to zoom than a manual ring. OSS provides optical stabilisation. Build is extremely lightweight plastic at just 116g.
Sony E mount in APS-C format, 40.5mm filter thread. The power zoom design enables smooth cinematic zooming in video mode. The Sony E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS offers much more range. The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary is a dramatically better optical alternative.
Very cheap used. Check the power zoom motor responds smoothly and the retractable mechanism locks firmly. The tiny 40.5mm filter thread means most filters will not fit. Adequate as a starter lens but most users upgrade quickly.
