Sony's G-series APS-C telephoto zoom with 525mm equivalent reach and optical stabilisation.
The Sony E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS was released in 2019 as a G-series telephoto zoom for Sony APS-C E-mount bodies, providing a 105-525mm full-frame equivalent range — Sony's longest native APS-C telephoto zoom. OSS (Optical SteadyShot) is built in for handheld telephoto use. The G designation indicates Sony's prosumer optical quality tier, above the standard consumer E-mount lenses. On APS-C bodies the 525mm equivalent provides meaningful wildlife and outdoor sports reach. This is an APS-C-only lens and does not cover the full-frame FE sensor.
The optical design uses 19 elements in 13 groups. Seven aperture blades produce acceptable out-of-focus rendering. The 67mm filter thread requires a mid-range filter set. At 625g the lens is moderate for its telephoto range. Minimum focus distance of 1.1m at the wide end, 1.5m at the tele end. OSS provides handheld stability at telephoto distances. Variable aperture from f/4.5 at 70mm to f/6.3 at 350mm. The APS-C-only image circle is confirmed by the 'E' (not 'FE') designation — use only on APS-C E-mount bodies.
The 105-525mm equivalent on Sony APS-C extends from short telephoto to super-telephoto in a single lens, covering the range for birds, wildlife, and outdoor sports from a stationary position. The G-series OSS provides useful stabilisation for static wildlife at longer focal lengths. The f/6.3 maximum at 350mm is slow for indoor or low-light telephoto use — adequate outdoor daylight performance is the primary use case. The lens pairs naturally with the Sony ZV-E10, A6600, and A6700 for a complete APS-C telephoto kit.
On the used market the E 70-350mm G OSS is available at mid-range APS-C telephoto pricing. Condition checks: OSS engagement, AF response across the full zoom range, zoom ring smoothness, and front element for marks. The Sony FE 200-600mm G OSS provides longer reach for full-frame bodies. Compatible with Sony APS-C E-mount bodies; when attached to full-frame FE bodies the camera automatically activates APS-C crop mode.
