Sony's APS-C power zoom superzoom — 27-300mm equiv with OSS and smooth servo zoom for video.
The Sony E PZ 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS is a power zoom superzoom for Sony APS-C E-mount, covering 27-300mm equivalent with motorised zoom control. Originally designed for Sony's NEX camcorder-style cameras, it provides smooth servo zoom ideal for video work.
Optically adequate for a superzoom — acceptable centre sharpness at mid-focal lengths. The power zoom provides servo-driven smooth zoom transitions impossible with manual zoom rings — ideal for video. OSS stabilisation. AF is functional but not fast.
Sony E mount with 67mm filter thread. Approximately 649g — heavier than typical APS-C superzooms. APS-C coverage. Power zoom with variable speed. Minimum focus distance 30cm at 18mm. Internal zoom — barrel doesn't extend. Also used on Sony camcorders.
Available used at mid-range prices. The power zoom is the unique feature — designed primarily for video use. The Tamron 18-200mm Di III VC is lighter for stills. The internal zoom and servo control make it popular with video shooters using Sony APS-C cameras.
