The Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM OSS was released in 2021 as the G Master macro prime for Sony FE full-frame bodies, providing 1:1 magnification at 0.26m minimum focus distance with OSS stabilisation for handheld macro work. Eleven rounded aperture blades. The XD linear motor provides fast, quiet AF. At 646g and 67mm filter thread it is the professional Sony macro reference. Compatible with Sony macro teleconverters for magnification beyond 1:1.

The optical design uses 17 elements in 13 groups including XA aspherical and ED elements. Eleven rounded aperture blades produce circular bokeh. The 67mm filter thread is the Sony G/GM standard for mid-weight primes. At 646g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.26m at 1:1 magnification. XD linear motor provides fast, quiet AF. OSS provides stabilisation for handheld macro shooting. f/2.8 maximum aperture.

The 100mm focal length at 1:1 provides greater working distance between lens front and subject compared to shorter macro primes — at 0.26m sensor-to-subject distance, approximately 15-17cm of clearance exists between the front element and subject, providing space for lighting setups at high magnification. OSS stabilisation extends handheld macro capability beyond tripod-only use. At 100mm the lens also provides strong background separation for portrait work at standard distances.
