Sony's full-frame ultra-wide zoom — constant f/4 from 12-24mm with exceptionally wide coverage.

The Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G launched in 2017 as Sony's widest zoom for full-frame E-mount, providing an extraordinary 12mm at the wide end — 122 degrees of coverage. The G designation indicates premium optics below GM tier.

Optically very good — sharp in the centre with acceptable edge performance. The 12mm wide end provides dramatic ultra-wide perspectives. Constant f/4 aperture maintains consistent exposure. Direct Drive SSM AF is fast and quiet. Good for landscape and architecture.

Sony FE mount. Bulbous front element — no standard filter thread. Rear filter holder for gels. Weighs 565g — compact for the coverage. Dust and moisture resistant. Minimum focus distance 28cm. No filter thread — the main practical limitation.

Available used at mid-range to professional prices. The 12-24mm f/2.8 GM is sharper and faster but larger, heavier, and much more expensive. For architecture and landscape photographers on Sony FE who want the widest possible zoom coverage at a reasonable size and price.
