Sony's wide standard zoom — 20-70mm at constant f/4 with G-series quality, wider than typical 24-70mm.

The Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G launched in 2023 as an innovative standard zoom — starting at 20mm instead of the typical 24mm. This 4mm wider perspective adds genuine practical value for landscapes and interiors while maintaining constant f/4.

Optically very good — G-series quality throughout with sharp results. The 20mm wide end provides significantly more coverage than 24mm — visible in landscape and interior photography. Constant f/4. XD Linear Motor AF. Close focus at 25cm.

Sony FE mount with 72mm filter thread. Approximately 488g — compact for the range. Dust and moisture resistant. Aperture ring with de-click. Internal zoom. 25cm close focus with 0.39x magnification at 70mm.

Available used at mid-range prices. The 20mm starting point is the key differentiator — meaningfully wider than 24mm alternatives. The 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is faster but heavier. For Sony shooters wanting a wider-than-normal standard zoom.
