Sony's compact G-series 24mm f/2.8 — incredibly small wide prime with close focus and de-click aperture.
The Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G launched in 2021 as part of Sony's compact G-series prime trio alongside the 40mm and 50mm f/2.5 versions. It provides a wide 24mm perspective in near-pancake dimensions with G-series optical quality.
Optically very good — sharp from f/4 with good performance at f/2.8. G-series contrast and rendering. Linear motor AF is fast and quiet. Close focus at 24cm. Minimal focus breathing makes it good for video. Well-suited to both stills and cinematic work.
Sony FE mount with 49mm filter thread. Weighs just 162g — incredibly compact. Dust and moisture resistant. De-clickable aperture ring. Focus hold button. 7 rounded aperture blades. Minimum focus distance 24cm.
Available used at mid-range prices. The lightest and most compact Sony FE 24mm option. The Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM is faster but much larger. The Tamron 24mm f/2.8 OSD has macro but is less sharp. Outstanding as a compact wide prime for everyday and travel use.
