Sony's ultra-compact retractable kit zoom for full-frame A7C and A7C II.
The Sony FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 launched in 2020 as the kit lens for the A7C, designed to make the compact full-frame body as small as possible. With a retractable design at just 167g, it is one of the lightest full-frame zoom lenses ever made. The 28-60mm range is narrow but covers the essential standard perspective.
Optical quality is decent for its size with acceptable centre sharpness. The slow aperture limits low-light use. There is no OSS — it relies entirely on body IBIS. The retractable design collapses to a very thin profile. Build is lightweight plastic.
Sony FE mount for full-frame bodies, 40.5mm filter thread. The FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS offers more range with OSS. The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III is a dramatic quality upgrade. The 28-60mm exists purely for compactness.
Cheap used. Check the retractable mechanism. The narrow range and slow aperture make this a compromise for size. Most users pair it with the A7C for maximum portability but upgrade to a wider-range or faster lens relatively quickly.
