Sony's Zeiss-branded 35mm f/1.4 for FE mount — the original fast wide prime for Sony full-frame mirrorless.

The Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 ZA Distagon T* (SEL35F14Z) was released approximately 2015 as Sony's premium full-frame 35mm prime, featuring Zeiss optical design (Distagon formula) with T* anti-reflection coating and Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) autofocus. At 630g and 72mm filter thread. Twelve elements in 8 groups. Nine circular aperture blades. 0.30m MFD.

The optical design uses 12 elements in 8 groups including 3 aspherical elements (one Advanced Aspherical / AA type). Nine circular aperture blades. The 72mm filter thread. At 630g the lens is substantial. Minimum focus distance of 0.30m. DDSSM provides fast, near-silent AF. Zeiss T* anti-reflection coating. f/1.4 maximum aperture. Full-frame coverage.

The Distagon formula provides retrofocal wide-angle correction suited to the short Sony FE flange distance: the Distagon design positions the rear nodal point closer to the sensor than the physical front-of-lens, enabling wide-angle field coverage at 35mm with full-frame sensor coverage. The DDSSM linear motor provides video-capable AF without the mechanical noise of ring-gear motors.
