Sony's compact full-frame 35mm f/1.8 — lightweight, sharp, and the perfect everyday prime for FE mount.
The Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 launched in 2019 as a compact, affordable full-frame wide-angle prime for E-mount. It provides a popular 35mm perspective at f/1.8 in a significantly smaller and lighter package than the 35mm f/1.4 options from Sony, Sigma, or Samyang.
Optically very good — sharp from f/2.5 with good performance at f/1.8. Not quite Art-line Sigma sharpness but very capable for the size. Linear motor AF is fast and quiet. Minimal focus breathing makes it well-suited to video. Good close-up performance.
Sony FE mount with 55mm filter thread. Weighs just 281g — remarkably compact for a full-frame 35mm. Dust and moisture resistant. Minimum focus distance 22cm — excellent. Focus hold button. No aperture ring on this model.
Common used and good value. The perfect walkaround prime for Sony full-frame — compact, sharp, and fast enough for most situations. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is sharper but larger and heavier. For everyday use, this is one of the best 35mm lenses for any system.
