Sony's revolutionary constant f/2 telephoto zoom — GM-class optics covering 50-150mm at an unprecedented aperture.
The Sony FE 50-150mm f/2 GM (SEL50150GM) was released in April 2025 as a constant f/2 telephoto zoom for Sony FE full-frame bodies, covering 50-150mm — a portrait-to-short-telephoto range at the widest aperture available in a zoom. Eleven circular aperture blades. At 1,340g and 95mm filter thread it is a substantial G Master prime. Not compatible with Sony teleconverters due to rear element position.
The optical design uses 19 elements in 17 groups including 2 extreme aspherical (XA), 2 aspherical, 3 ED, and 2 Super ED elements. Eleven circular aperture blades produce circular bokeh. The 95mm filter thread is large-diameter. At 1,340g the lens is substantial. Minimum focus distance of 0.4m at 50mm (0.74m at 150mm). Constant f/2 aperture. Four XD Linear AF motors. No teleconverter compatibility.
The constant f/2 at 50-150mm provides one full stop more light than f/2.8 alternatives across the same range — meaningful for portrait, indoor sports, and event photography where subject isolation at f/2 and high-shutter-speed low-light performance are both required. The 50mm at f/2 covers environmental portrait framing; 150mm at f/2 provides tight portrait compression with strong background separation. The 1,340g reflects the optical mass required for constant f/2 across a 3x zoom range.
On the used market the Sony FE 50-150mm f/2 GM is an April 2025 product with very limited used availability. Condition checks: XD Linear AF motor response, 95mm front element for marks, and zoom ring smoothness. No teleconverter support — confirm before purchase if teleconverter use is planned. Compatible with all Sony FE-mount full-frame and APS-C E-mount bodies.
