Sony's professional full-frame cinema camera — 10.2MP sensor optimised for low light with active cooling.
The Sony FX6 (ILME-FX6) was released in 2020 as the compact Cinema Line full-frame cinema camera, featuring a full-frame BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor with 4K/120fps internal recording. No IBIS — the built-in electronic variable ND filter (1/4 to 1/128 ND) physically precludes sensor-shift stabilisation. BP-U35 (pro series) battery. At approximately 890g body only.
Full-frame BSI Exmor R CMOS (10.2MP effective). 4K/120fps; DCI 4K/60fps; 1080/240fps. XAVC-I 4:2:2 10-bit internal; 16-bit RAW via SDI output. Built-in electronic variable ND filter (1/4–1/128 ND). No IBIS — gyroscope metadata enables Sony Catalyst post-stabilisation. BP-U35 battery (Sony pro series). Approximately 890g body. Sony FE full-frame mount.
The absence of IBIS in the FX6 is deliberate: the built-in electronic variable ND filter occupies the mechanical space that IBIS sensor-shift requires, and Sony judged the built-in ND more valuable for cinema workflow. The FX3 (2021), sharing the same sensor in a stills-body format, adds IBIS but has no built-in ND. The BP-U35 is from Sony's professional video battery ecosystem, distinct from the consumer NP-FZ100.
On the used market the Sony FX6 is available at Cinema Line pricing. Condition checks: built-in ND function (test all ND positions), BP-U35 battery health, 4K recording function. No IBIS. Compatible with all Sony FE-mount lenses.
