Sony's professional AVCHD camcorder with three CMOS sensors and 20x optical zoom.
The Sony HXR-NX5E is a professional AVCHD camcorder aimed at corporate, documentary, and event videographers. It uses three 1/3-inch CMOS sensors for colour separation with a 20x optical G Lens zoom covering approximately 29-580mm equivalent.
Records 1080p 60i/50i AVCHD at 24Mbps with three-chip colour separation for accurate broadcast-quality colour. 20x optical zoom with SteadyShot stabilisation. GPS built in for geotagging footage. NightShot infrared mode. Slow/quick motion recording.
Dual memory card slots (Memory Stick and SD). XLR audio inputs with phantom power. 3.2-inch LCD. Built-in handle with accessory shoe. GPS. Composite, component, and HDMI outputs. ND filters built in. 1020g without battery.
Available used very cheaply. AVCHD codec and 1080i feel dated. Three-chip colour was the selling point — still looks good in good light. The NX5R updated with Wi-Fi. Modern mirrorless cameras offer better video in smaller packages. For those with existing Sony camcorder workflows.
