Sony's original FS7 — Super 35 cinema camera with E-mount AF, predecessor to the FS7 II.
The Sony PXW-FS7 is the original first-generation Super 35mm cinema camcorder from Sony's XDCAM FS7 line, released approximately 2014. Features a Super 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor with E-mount interchangeable lenses and XAVC S recording. The FS7 II (2016 successor) added improved ergonomics and a variable ND filter not present in this first generation. Sony E mount.
Super 35mm (approximately APS-C) Exmor CMOS sensor. 4K/60fps XAVC S recording. E-mount (accepts E and FE lenses). Slow motion up to 180fps at 1080p. External XDCA-FS7 adapter for RAW output (optional). No built-in variable ND filter (present in FS7 II, absent here). At approximately 1,800g body only. Sony E mount.
The FS7 established a new price-to-performance category for Super 35mm cinema in 2014: professional 4K recording with E-mount lens compatibility in a lightweight body at a fraction of comparable cinema cameras. The absence of a built-in variable ND filter (added in the FS7 II) requires external clip-on ND filters for exposure management in varying light.
On the used market the Sony PXW-FS7 (original) is a first-generation Super 35mm cinema camcorder. Condition checks: E-mount contacts, 4K recording function, slow-motion modes, XDCA-FS7 adapter compatibility if needed, battery health (BP-U). No built-in variable ND — confirm vs FS7 II when purchasing.
