Sony's latest full-frame fixed-lens compact — rumoured successor to the RX1R II with updated sensor and features.
The Sony Cyber-shot RX1R III was released in July 2025 as the third generation of Sony's full-frame fixed-lens compact, featuring a 61MP full-frame BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor — the same resolution as the A7R V — in a body with a fixed Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 lens. A built-in 2.36M-dot OLED EVF. 4K/30fps 10-bit 4:2:2. NP-FW50 battery (~300 shots). At approximately 498g with battery.
61MP full-frame BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor. Fixed Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 lens. 4K/30fps 10-bit 4:2:2 internal; FHD/120fps. Built-in 2.36M-dot OLED EVF. NP-FW50 battery (~300 shots). Body weight approximately 498g with battery. USB-C charging. Fixed 35mm f/2 lens; no interchangeable mount.
The 61MP full-frame sensor in a 498g compact is the RX1R III's defining positioning: maximum resolution in a pocketable form factor that interchangeable-lens 61MP bodies (A7R V at 723g) cannot match at the same weight. The fixed Zeiss 35mm f/2 is optimised for the full-frame sensor in a way that no interchangeable zoom can match at this size. The NP-FW50 battery limitation (~300 shots) is the primary practical constraint for extended shooting.
On the used market the Sony RX1R III is a July 2025 product with very limited used availability. Condition checks: 35mm lens element for marks, built-in EVF condition, NP-FW50 battery health (shared with A6xxx series — small battery, modest capacity). Fixed 35mm f/2 Zeiss; no interchangeable mount.
