Tamron's APS-C all-in-one superzoom with VC stabilisation — 27-405mm equivalent in a single lens.
The Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD launched in 2010 as a 15x superzoom for APS-C DSLRs. Covering 27-405mm equivalent on Canon APS-C, it was designed as the ultimate all-in-one travel lens, eliminating the need to carry multiple lenses.
Optical quality is acceptable for a superzoom of this range — sharp in the centre at mid-focal lengths but soft at the extremes, particularly at 270mm. VC (Vibration Compensation) stabilisation is effective and important given the slow maximum aperture at the long end. PZD motor provides quiet AF.
Available in Canon EF-S and Nikon F DX mounts. 62mm filter thread. Weighs 450g — impressive for 15x zoom range. No weather sealing. Minimum focus distance 49cm with a useful 1:3.8 macro ratio. Di II designation means APS-C coverage only.
Common used and very affordable. Check zoom action for smooth operation — superzooms work hard mechanically. The Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 extended the range further. Good for travellers who want one lens but expect optical compromises versus dedicated zooms.
