Tamron's compact full-frame 24mm f/2.8 for Sony FE — tiny, affordable, with 1:2 half-macro capability.
The Tamron 24mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 launched in 2019 as part of Tamron's compact full-frame prime trio for Sony FE mount. It offers a wide-angle perspective in an incredibly small package with a useful 1:2 half-macro magnification ratio.
Optically good — sharp from f/4 across the frame with decent performance wide open at f/2.8. The 1:2 macro capability at 12cm minimum focus distance makes it surprisingly versatile for close-up and product photography. OSD (Optimised Silent Drive) motor is quiet and fast.
Sony FE mount with 67mm filter thread. Weighs just 215g — extraordinarily compact for a full-frame 24mm. No weather sealing. Moisture-resistant construction. The barrel is mostly plastic but feels solid. 7 rounded aperture blades.
Available used at very low prices — exceptional value. Part of a trio with 20mm and 35mm f/2.8 versions. Check AF accuracy — some copies show inconsistency. An ideal walkaround wide-angle for Sony full-frame shooters who prioritise portability.
