Tamron's brilliant full-frame all-in-one for Sony FE — 28-200mm starting at f/2.8 with excellent optics.
The Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD launched in 2020 as a genuinely innovative all-in-one zoom for Sony full-frame E-mount. Starting at f/2.8 at 28mm — faster than any previous superzoom — it covers an impressive 7.1x range while maintaining good optical quality.
Optically impressive for a superzoom — sharp across the frame at mid-focal lengths with particularly good performance at the wide end where the f/2.8 aperture is available. The RXD stepping motor AF is fast and quiet. Designed natively for Sony mirrorless — excellent AF integration.
Sony FE mount with 67mm filter thread. Weighs 575g — remarkably light for the range. Moisture-resistant construction. Minimum focus distance 19cm at 28mm with 1:3.1 macro ratio. Internal zoom design. Compatible with Tamron's lens utility software for customisation.
Common used and excellent value. The f/2.8 starting aperture sets it apart from every other superzoom. The Sony 24-240mm is wider but optically inferior. For Sony shooters wanting one lens for travel that doesn't compromise too heavily, this is the benchmark all-in-one zoom.
