Tamron's stabilised full-frame superzoom — the 28-300mm VC for Canon EF with massive range.
The Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD was released in 2014 as a full-frame superzoom for Canon EF mount. Covering the complete 28-300mm range on full frame with VC stabilisation, it provides a genuine one-lens solution for travel. The PZD (Piezo Drive) motor offers quieter AF than earlier Tamron designs.
Optical performance involves the expected compromises of a 10.7x full-frame zoom ratio. Centre sharpness is acceptable throughout the range with softening at extremes. VC stabilisation is effective at longer focal lengths where the slow aperture demands steady hands. PZD motor is quieter than earlier designs. The full-frame coverage distinguishes it from APS-C superzooms.
Canon EF mount, full-frame coverage. Filter thread is 67mm. Weight is approximately 540 grams — impressive for a full-frame 28-300mm. Build quality is functional with moisture-resistant construction. The VC and PZD combination make this a refined package. No weather sealing. The lens extends significantly at 300mm.
Available on the used market at reasonable prices. Check VC motor, zoom mechanism, and AF function. One of the only full-frame superzooms with stabilisation — the Nikon 28-300mm VR is the main competitor. Adequate for travel photography where convenience matters more than optical perfection.
