Tamron's DSLR-era standard-to-portrait zoom — the 35-150mm f/2.8-4 VC for Nikon F mount.
The Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD was released in 2019 as a DSLR-era predecessor to the revolutionary mirrorless 35-150mm f/2-2.8 (ID 3593). Covering 35-150mm with a fast f/2.8 starting aperture and VC stabilisation on Nikon F mount, it essentially replaced a bag of fast primes with a single zoom for event and portrait work.
Optical performance is good. The 35-150mm range with f/2.8 start is remarkably versatile for events and portraits. VC stabilisation is effective. OSD (Optimised Silent Drive) motor provides quieter AF than earlier Tamron designs. Sharpness is good throughout. The concept — one lens replacing multiple fast primes — was innovative for a DSLR zoom.
Nikon F mount, full-frame. Filter thread is 72mm. Weight is approximately 796 grams — moderate for the range. Build quality is good with moisture-resistant construction. VC provides approximately 5 stops. The 35-150mm range covers everything from environmental wide-angle to tight portrait in a single zoom — enormously practical for events.
Available at reasonable prices. Check VC and AF. The DSLR version of the revolutionary 35-150mm concept. The mirrorless f/2-2.8 version (ID 3593) is dramatically better. This DSLR version provides similar versatility at lower cost. Excellent for event and wedding photographers on Nikon F mount who want one-lens flexibility.
