Tamron's budget APS-C telephoto — same as ID 520, basic 55-200mm without stabilisation.
The Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro is a budget APS-C telephoto zoom covering approximately 82.5-300mm equivalent with LD glass and macro close-focus capability. One of the most affordable telephoto options for APS-C DSLR systems.
Optically basic — acceptable centre sharpness with LD Low Dispersion glass helping control chromatic aberration at telephoto focal lengths. No image stabilisation making handheld shooting at 200mm challenging. Macro mode provides useful 1:3.5 magnification at 95cm.
Available for Canon EF-S, Nikon F, and Sony A mounts with 52mm filter thread. Very lightweight at approximately 295g with no weather sealing. APS-C coverage only. Budget plastic construction. Di II designation indicates APS-C optimisation.
Available used for almost nothing — often included free with camera body purchases. The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM is dramatically better with built-in stabilisation and improved optics. Only consider this if obtained free or at absolute throwaway prices.
