Tamron's budget ultra-wide for Nikon DX — the SP 10-24mm covering 15-36mm equivalent.
The Tamron SP 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical IF is an affordable ultra-wide zoom for Nikon F-mount APS-C DSLRs. Covering a 15-36mm equivalent range, it provides dramatic wide-angle perspectives at a budget price. The SP designation indicates Tamron's premium build tier, while the LD and aspherical elements help control optical aberrations.
Optical performance is decent for the price. Centre sharpness is good, particularly in the mid-range. Corners are softer, especially at 10mm wide open. The aspherical and LD elements control distortion and chromatic aberration reasonably well. No stabilisation — the wide focal lengths naturally tolerate slower shutter speeds. IF design prevents front element rotation.
Nikon F mount, APS-C only. Filter thread is 77mm. Weight is approximately 406 grams. Build quality is solid with the SP designation. Internal focusing keeps the front element stationary. No weather sealing. The lens also exists in Canon EF-S and Sony A mounts. The Tamron 10-24mm Di II VC HLD is the updated stabilised successor.
Affordable on the used market. Check for smooth zoom and AF operation. A serviceable budget ultra-wide for Nikon DX shooters. The 15mm equivalent wide end provides dramatic perspectives for landscape and architecture. The later VC HLD version adds stabilisation and improved AF.
