Tamron's budget ultra-wide zoom for APS-C — affordable 15-36mm equivalent coverage in Sony A mount.
The Tamron SP 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical IF was released in 2008 as an affordable ultra-wide zoom for APS-C DSLRs. This Sony A-mount version covers a 15-36mm equivalent range, offering dramatic wide-angle perspectives at a budget price point. It competed against the more expensive Sony and Sigma ultra-wide options in the A-mount ecosystem.
Optical performance is decent for the price. Centre sharpness is good, particularly in the mid-range of the zoom. Corners are softer, especially at 10mm wide open. Barrel distortion is noticeable at the wide end. The aspherical and LD elements help control aberrations. No stabilisation — rely on Sony's SteadyShot INSIDE body-based stabilisation on A-mount bodies.
Sony A mount, APS-C only. Filter thread is 77mm. Weight is approximately 406 grams. Build quality is solid with the SP designation indicating Tamron's premium tier. The lens also exists in Canon EF-S and Nikon F DX mounts. No weather sealing. The IF (Internal Focusing) design means the front element does not rotate during focus.
Affordable on the used market, particularly in the declining Sony A-mount ecosystem. Check for smooth zoom and focus operation. A serviceable budget ultra-wide for Sony A-mount APS-C shooters, though with A-mount discontinued, the lens has limited future utility. Adapts to Sony E-mount via the LA-EA5 adapter.
