Twenty-three elements in 17 groups (1 XLD + 4 LD elements). Nine rounded aperture blades. The 77mm filter thread. At 1,470g with tripod collar. Minimum focus distance of 1.3m. USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) for fast, quiet AF. VC vibration compensation. f/2.8 constant aperture. Full-frame coverage (Di). Nikon F mount.
The A009 is the original Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC for Nikon F: the subsequent G2 (A025, ~2017) improved VC performance to 5 stops CIPA and added moisture-resistant construction. Both lenses share the 77mm filter thread and constant f/2.8. The A009 and A025 are distinct lenses with different optical designs.
On the used market the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD A009 is affordable as a Nikon FX telephoto zoom. Condition checks: USD AF response, VC engagement, 77mm front element for marks, zoom ring smoothness. Note: the G2 (A025) is a later, improved version. Compatible with Nikon F-mount FX and DX bodies.
