Budget ultra-wide zoom for APS-C with 77mm filter thread that accepts standard filters.
The Tamron SP AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II was released in 2008 as a budget alternative to Canon and Nikon OEM ultra-wides for APS-C. Its 15-36mm equivalent range and 77mm filter thread that accepts standard filters set it apart from bulbous-front competitors.
Centre sharpness is decent but corners fall off, particularly at 10mm wide open. Stopping down to f/8 brings acceptable edge performance. The AF motor is functional but not fast. Build is typical Tamron consumer plastic with a metal mount.
Available in Canon EF-S, Nikon F, and Sony A mounts. 77mm filter thread is the key advantage — many ultra-wides cannot accept front filters. No vibration compensation on this version — the VC HLD Mark II added it in 2017.
Readily available used at low prices. Check the zoom ring for smoothness. Some copies exhibit decentring — test at f/8 against a flat wall. The VC HLD version is worth the premium if available.
