Tamron's early full-frame ultra-wide — 17-35mm at f/2.8-4 with LD glass for DSLR mounts.
The Tamron SP AF 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical (IF) launched in 2003 as a budget full-frame ultra-wide zoom. Starting at f/2.8 wide and narrowing to f/4 at 35mm, it provided affordable ultra-wide coverage for full-frame DSLRs.
Optically acceptable — sharp in the centre at mid-apertures. LD glass helps with chromatic aberration. Variable f/2.8-4 aperture. IF internal focusing. SP designation — Tamron's premium tier. No stabilisation.
Available for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. 77mm filter thread. Approximately 510g. No weather sealing. Full-frame coverage. SP build quality. Minimum focus distance approximately 30cm.
Available used very cheaply. The 2018 Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD replaced this with improved AF motor. Modern alternatives are dramatically better. For absolute budget full-frame ultra-wide DSLR use.
