Sixteen elements in 13 groups (1 LD + 3 aspherical elements; IF internal focus). Seven aperture blades. The 67mm filter thread. At approximately 430g. Minimum focus distance of 0.27m. Screwdrive AF (body motor required). f/2.8 constant aperture. Di II APS-C image circle. Canon EF-S mount.
The XR Di II non-VC provides constant f/2.8 from 17-50mm for APS-C bodies without optical stabilisation: the absence of VC keeps the design lighter and simpler than the VC variant. The 0.27m MFD enables close environmental foreground compositions at the 17mm wide end. The IF (Internal Focus) design maintains constant lens length during focusing.
On the used market the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) is affordable as an APS-C f/2.8 standard zoom. Condition checks: screwdrive AF response (requires body motor), 67mm front element for marks, zoom ring smoothness. Note: this is the non-VC (non-stabilised) version. Di II APS-C only. Compatible with Canon EOS EF-S bodies (APS-C).
