The Tokina RMC 200mm f/3.5 was a manual focus telephoto prime from Tokina's RMC series, produced during the late 1970s and 1980s as an affordable alternative to first-party 200mm lenses for 35mm SLR photographers shooting portraits, sport and wildlife.
The lens uses a conventional helicoid focus mount with a manual click-stop aperture ring, and Tokina's RMC multi-coating to control flare at this focal length. A moderate f/3.5 maximum aperture keeps the lens usable in overcast conditions while remaining reasonably compact for a prime telephoto.
Wide open it is soft with some vignetting, sharpening well by f/5.6-f/8, and its rendering favours contrast and colour neutrality over shallow-depth-of-field character. It is a practical, honest telephoto rather than a lens sought out for its rendering.
Available secondhand in M42, Pentax K, Canon FD, Nikon F, Minolta MD, Olympus OM and Konica AR mounts at low prices. Check the focus helicoid for smooth, even travel and confirm the aperture blades are free of oil, a common fault on unused primes of this age.
