Tokina's vintage AF standard zoom — basic 28-70mm for early AF DSLR systems.
The Tokina AF SD 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 is a vintage autofocus standard zoom from the early AF era of the 1990s. The SD (Super Dispersion) glass provided improved contrast over non-SD alternatives at budget consumer pricing.
Optically basic but functional — acceptable for casual photography with SD glass providing some improvement in chromatic aberration control over cheaper alternatives. Variable f/3.5-4.5 aperture. Autofocus via body-driven screw on Nikon or motor on Canon.
Available for Nikon F and Canon EF mounts with 52mm filter thread at approximately 280g — compact and lightweight for a standard zoom. Full-frame coverage. Basic AF consumer zoom specification typical of the early 1990s.
Essentially free used — any modern zoom is dramatically better in every respect. The SD glass was a marketing differentiator in the 1990s budget zoom market. Only useful at throwaway prices for basic casual photography or as an emergency backup.
