Tokina's updated fast APS-C ultra-wide — 11-20mm f/2.8 with wider range than the 11-16mm.
The Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 Pro DX launched in 2015 as an updated fast ultra-wide for APS-C, extending the long end from 16mm to 20mm while maintaining constant f/2.8. The wider range addresses the main criticism of the popular 11-16mm.
Optically very good — same sharp quality as the 11-16mm with the extended range to 20mm (30mm equiv). Constant f/2.8 throughout — essential for astrophotography. One-touch focus clutch. Multi-layer coatings.
Available for Canon EF-S and Nikon F. 82mm filter thread — larger than the 11-16mm's 77mm. Approximately 560g. No weather sealing. The 16.5-30mm equivalent range is more versatile than the 11-16mm's narrow range.
Available used at mid-range prices. The 11-20mm range is meaningfully more versatile than 11-16mm. The 82mm filter thread is larger but still practical. For APS-C DSLR astrophotography and landscape shooters wanting fast ultra-wide with practical range.
