The Tokina atx-m 85mm f/1.8 was released approximately 2019 as a native Sony FE-mount full-frame portrait prime designed for the short-flange-distance mirrorless system. The atx-m series represents Tokina's mirrorless-first design line, distinct from the adapted-design atx-i and atx-pro series.

f/1.8 maximum aperture. Eleven elements in eight groups. 67mm filter thread. Nine aperture blades. At approximately 506g. DC motor autofocus. Minimum focus distance 0.85m. Sony FE mount.

The DC (direct-current) motor autofocus is noticeably slower than ring-type ultrasonic or linear motor AF at comparable price points, and can hunt in lower-contrast conditions; it is adequate for still portraits of relatively static subjects but less suited to continuous AF tracking of moving subjects. Optical quality at f/1.8 is competitive for the price.
