Viltrox's fast wide-angle for Canon M — the AF 23mm f/1.4 for the discontinued EF-M system.
The Viltrox AF 23mm f/1.4 for Canon EF-M is a fast wide-angle prime providing a 37mm equivalent on Canon's discontinued M-mount APS-C system. Full AF with Canon face and eye detection. At f/1.4, it provides genuine DOF control — a significant upgrade from Canon's slow EF-M kit zoom. One of few fast primes available for EF-M.
Optical performance is good for the price. Sharpness is respectable from f/1.4. Full electronic AF communication. The f/1.4 provides meaningful shallow DOF on APS-C. The 37mm equivalent is versatile for everyday use. Quiet STM motor. The Viltrox filled a significant gap in the EF-M lens ecosystem where Canon offered few fast primes.
Canon EF-M mount — discontinued. Filter thread is 52mm. Weight is approximately 260 grams — compact. Build quality is decent. The EF-M system is discontinued — no future lens or body development. The lens provided genuine value during the EF-M era. Adapts to RF-S via EF-M to RF adapter where available.
Available at budget prices — EF-M decline reduces demand. Check AF. A good fast prime for existing EF-M shooters. The discontinued mount limits future utility. The Canon RF-S system is the successor ecosystem. Only of interest to current M50/M6 II owners.
