Viltrox's budget portrait prime for APS-C mirrorless — 84mm equivalent at f/1.7 with fast AF.
The Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 is a budget portrait prime designed for APS-C mirrorless systems, providing 84mm equivalent on Fujifilm X-mount. Viltrox has built a reputation for affordable autofocus lenses that punch above their price point.
Optically good for the price — sharp from f/2.5 with pleasant bokeh at f/1.7. Some vignetting and softness wide open that clears by f/2.8. Autofocus uses a stepping motor that is quiet and reasonably fast. Eye-detect AF works with compatible bodies.
Fujifilm X mount with 52mm filter thread. Weighs approximately 260g. No weather sealing. Minimum focus distance 50cm. 9 rounded aperture blades for smooth bokeh. Also available in Sony E, Nikon Z, and L-Mount versions. USB-C port for firmware updates.
Available used very cheaply — exceptional value for a fast portrait prime. The Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 is optically superior but many times the price. Check for firmware updates via USB-C — Viltrox actively improves AF performance. Outstanding budget portrait option.
