Voigtlander's ultra-wide for M-mount — the 15mm f/4.5 III optimised for digital M sensors.
The Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Super Wide Heliar III VM is the third generation of Voigtlander's ultra-wide for Leica M mount, described in Nikon Z version under ID 4178. The Type III specifically addresses digital M sensor compatibility — reducing colour shift and corner performance issues on digital M bodies. The widest commonly used M-mount lens.
Optical performance is good. The Type III revision improves digital compatibility over earlier versions. Sharpness is good when stopped down. The 15mm provides an extraordinary 110-degree FOV on full frame. The f/4.5 is slow but adequate for landscape and architecture. The digital M optimisation is the key Type III improvement.
Leica M mount. Filter thread is 58mm. Weight is approximately 200 grams — compact. Build quality is outstanding Cosina precision. The Type III is the preferred version for digital M use. The 15mm extends well beyond the rangefinder's frameline coverage — external finder or live view required for framing.
Available at moderate prices. Check rangefinder coupling and smooth focus. The Type III is preferred for digital M bodies. An excellent compact ultra-wide for M-mount. The 58mm filter thread at 15mm enables standard filter use. Best for landscape, architecture, and dramatic wide-angle M-mount photography.
