Voigtlander's ultra-wide rangefinder — the Bessa R4M with 21/25/28/35/50mm framelines.
The Voigtlander Bessa R4M is a 35mm film rangefinder camera from Voigtlander (Cosina), using Leica M bayonet mount for full lens compatibility with all M-mount glass. The R4M is the wide-angle optimised member of the Bessa R rangefinder family, featuring framelines at 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, and 35mm.
The Bessa R4M uses a 35mm film transport, Leica M bayonet, mechanical focal plane shutter, centre-weighted TTL metering, and the distinctive wide-angle frameline set covering 21–35mm. It accepts all Leica M-mount lenses and provides full M-bayonet coupling for rangefinder focusing.
The Bessa R4M's unusual frameline set makes it the preferred Bessa body for wide-angle Leica M photographers using 21mm, 25mm, or 28mm lenses — frames not available in standard Leica M3 or M6 bodies. As a lower-cost Leica M-compatible body from Cosina, it provides access to the M-mount ecosystem at a fraction of Leica body pricing.
Test shutter operation at all speeds. Verify rangefinder coupling accuracy at close, medium, and infinity focus with an M-mount lens. Check TTL metering against a reference. Inspect the wide-angle framelines in the viewfinder for clarity. Test film transport mechanism.
