Voigtlander's fast manual-focus X-mount prime — a Cosina-built 23mm f/1.2 Nokton.
The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical is a fast manual-focus prime for Fujifilm X mount, announced in February 2022 and released on 13 July 2022. Made by Cosina, it delivers a classic 35mm-equivalent view and was notable as one of the first third-party manual-focus X-mount lenses with electronic contacts, following the Nokton 35mm f/1.2 that opened Cosina's official collaboration with Fujifilm.
Optically it uses 10 elements in 6 groups, including a double-sided aspherical element and two anomalous partial dispersion elements, with a 12-blade diaphragm running from f/1.2 to f/16. It focuses down to 18cm, takes 46mm filters, and measures about 59mm across by 44mm long at 214 g. Focus is manual only, but the contacts pass EXIF, distance and focus-check data to the camera; there is no stabilisation or weather sealing.
For UK used buyers it occupies a niche Fujifilm does not serve: the XF 23mm f/1.4 lenses offer autofocus but stop at f/1.4, while the Nokton reaches f/1.2 in a smaller, all-metal package with a proper clicked aperture ring. It appeals to X-Pro and X-T owners who favour rangefinder-style handling, and its limited UK distribution keeps the used supply thin and prices firm relative to the roughly £660 new price.
On inspection, rotate the focus ring through its full throw feeling for grit or slack, and check the aperture ring's third-stop clicks are consistent. The front element is close to the thread at 18cm focus, so look for cleaning marks, and confirm the screw-in hood and both caps are present. Test on-body that EXIF reports the lens, which confirms healthy contacts. Wide-open dreaminess at f/1.2 is characteristic rather than a fault, so judge sharpness at f/2. UK used examples typically trade around £400-550.
