Z CAM's compact cinema camera with MFT mount and 4K recording.
The Z CAM E2-M4 was released in June 2020 as a cinema box camera with a Micro Four Thirds mount, intended for professional video production where a compact, modular form factor is preferable to the DSLR-style mirrorless designs. The box camera shape enables easy rigging to cinema cages, monitors, and follow-focus systems without the ergonomic compromises of run-and-gun consumer bodies. The MFT mount provides access to a wide lens ecosystem including Olympus, Panasonic, and adapted cinema lenses. The E2-M4 records H.265 and H.264 internally and outputs ProRes RAW via HDMI to an Atomos recorder.
The 10.28MP 4/3-inch CMOS sensor is optimised for video with wide dynamic range characteristics. Maximum video resolution is 4K UHD and DCI 4K; in a 2.4:1 crop mode, frame rates up to 160fps are achievable for slow-motion capture. Internal recording uses H.265/H.264 at up to 300 Mbps. 10-bit internal recording is supported. ProRes RAW output is available via HDMI to an Atomos Ninja or Shogun recorder. Body weight approximately 930g with the MFT mount installed. The compact cubic form factor measures approximately 91 × 99 × 96mm.
The box form factor is the Z CAM E2-M4's defining characteristic for cinema work: it accepts standard cinema rigging — 15mm rails, top handles, follow-focus systems, cheese plates — without the lens-side grip that consumer mirrorless bodies place in the rig footprint. The MFT mount provides lens flexibility from native MFT optics through EF-mount via a speed booster. The 10MP sensor's large photosites are optimised for dynamic range at the cost of stills resolution — the E2-M4 is a video-primary tool.
On the used market the E2-M4 is a specialist cinema tool at video-production pricing. Condition checks: recording card interface (the E2-M4 uses a CFast or SD slot depending on firmware), HDMI output for ProRes RAW recording, and MFT mount condition. Firmware updates significantly affected the feature set post-launch — confirm firmware version. Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses; EF and PL adapters are available from third parties.
