Zeiss's cinema wide-angle — the CP.2 35mm T2.1 for PL-mount professional production.
The Zeiss CP.2 35mm T2.1 is the wide-angle workhorse of the CP.2 cinema prime series in PL mount. At 35mm T2.1, it covers the most commonly used wide-angle perspective in narrative cinema. The T* coating provides outstanding contrast. The CP.2 series delivers genuine Zeiss quality in cinema housing. One of the most-used primes in any CP.2 set.
Optical performance is excellent. Sharpness is very good from T2.1. The 35mm is typically the most-used cinema prime — wide enough for establishing shots, narrow enough to avoid unflattering distortion in dialogue. T* coating ensures contrast. Colour rendering matches across the CP.2 range. Focus breathing is well-controlled.
PL mount. Full-frame coverage. 114mm front diameter. Weight is approximately 1,060 grams. Build quality is outstanding Zeiss precision with geared rings and luminous markings. The CP.3 successor improved features but the CP.2 optics remain excellent. Mount interchange possible on some versions.
Available on the used cinema market. Check geared rings. The workhorse 35mm — most-used in many cinema prime sets. The CP.3 is preferred for new purchases. The CP.2 optics remain fully capable at lower used pricing. Essential for any CP.2-based production.
