Zeiss's fast Contax wide, the Hollywood — the Distagon T* 28mm f/2, manual-focus glass for the C/Y mount.
The Zeiss Distagon T* 28mm f/2 was a fast wide-angle prime for the Contax/Yashica mount, part of the Contax lineup from the mid-1970s and later nicknamed the Hollywood for its cinematic rendering. It was the brighter sibling to the f/2.8 version.
This is a manual-focus C/Y-mount lens with a 28mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2. The bright aperture and retrofocus Distagon design made it a capable low-light wide. Element and weight figures are omitted where they cannot be verified.
The f/2 speed and 28mm field suit reportage, street, environmental portraits and available-light work, with a rendering the lens is known for that many photographers describe as characterful wide open. Stopped down it tightens up across the frame.
This is a desirable and pricier lens on the used market owing to its speed and reputation. Check for haze, fungus and coating wear, confirm smooth focus and a clean aperture, and verify the front element is scratch-free. A C/Y adapter allows mounting on mirrorless bodies.
