Zeiss's compact Contax wide — the Distagon T* 28mm f/2.8, manual-focus glass for the C/Y mount.
The Zeiss Distagon T* 28mm f/2.8 was a compact wide-angle prime for the Contax/Yashica mount, offered from the late 1970s as the more affordable and lighter alternative to the faster 28mm f/2. It was a common everyday wide in the Contax system.
This is a manual-focus C/Y-mount lens with a 28mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. The retrofocus Distagon design provided rectilinear coverage suitable for a standard wide. Further specifications are omitted where they cannot be confirmed.
At 28mm the lens is a natural choice for travel, street, landscape and general shooting, giving a moderately wide field that stays easy to compose with. The T* coating supported clean contrast in mixed lighting.
Used copies are relatively plentiful and offer an accessible route into Contax Zeiss optics. Look for internal haze, fungus and coating scratches, check that the aperture blades are dry and the focus is smooth, and inspect the front element. It adapts to mirrorless cameras with a C/Y adapter.
