Zeiss's fast Contax telephoto — the Planar T* 135mm f/2, portrait-oriented manual-focus glass for the C/Y mount.
The Zeiss Planar T* 135mm f/2 was a fast telephoto prime for the Contax/Yashica mount, part of the Contax system from the mid-1970s and unusual for applying the Planar design at 135mm. It was one of the faster telephotos for the mount.
This is a manual-focus C/Y-mount lens with a 135mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2. The bright f/2 aperture at 135mm gave shallow depth of field and low-light reach. Element and weight figures are omitted where they cannot be verified.
At 135mm f/2 the lens excels for portraits and tight subject isolation, compressing the background and separating the subject strongly wide open. Its rendering is a large part of why it remains desirable to portrait shooters.
This is a sought-after, heavier lens that commands solid used prices. Check for haze, fungus and coating wear, confirm smooth focus on the large optical group and clean aperture blades, and inspect the front element. A C/Y adapter allows mirrorless use.
