Zeiss's fast Contax portrait prime — the Planar T* 85mm f/1.2, rare manual-focus glass for the C/Y mount.
The Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.2 was a very fast short-telephoto portrait prime for the Contax/Yashica mount, offered from the early 1980s and produced in limited commemorative runs. It was one of the fastest 85mm lenses of its era.
This is a manual-focus C/Y-mount lens with an 85mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.2. The bright f/1.2 aperture at a portrait focal length gave very shallow depth of field and strong low-light ability. Detailed figures are omitted where they cannot be verified.
At 85mm f/1.2 the lens is built for portraiture, isolating a subject against a soft background with the smooth out-of-focus rendering the design is prized for. It also handles available-light work where speed matters.
This is a rare and costly collector's lens that fetches high prices in good condition. Inspect closely for haze, fungus and coating wear, confirm smooth focus on the heavy optical group and clean aperture action, and check originality. A C/Y adapter allows mirrorless use.
