Zeiss's Contax telephoto — the Tele-Tessar T* 200mm f/3.5, manual-focus reach for the C/Y mount.
The Zeiss Tele-Tessar T* 200mm f/3.5 was a telephoto prime for the Contax/Yashica mount, among the early telephotos of the Contax system in the mid-1970s. The Tele-Tessar design provided reach in a comparatively compact form.
This is a manual-focus C/Y-mount lens with a 200mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/3.5. The Tele-Tessar layout kept the telephoto shorter than its focal length would suggest. Other figures are omitted where they cannot be verified.
At 200mm the lens suits portraits at distance, some wildlife and sport, and general telephoto work where compression and reach matter. Its moderate aperture keeps the size and weight in check for handheld use.
Used copies are available at reasonable prices for a Contax telephoto. Look for internal haze, fungus and coating wear, confirm smooth focus and clean aperture blades, and check the front element and any tripod collar. It adapts to mirrorless with a C/Y adapter.
