Zeiss's long Contax telephoto — the Tele-Tessar T* 300mm f/4, manual-focus reach for the C/Y mount.
The Zeiss Tele-Tessar T* 300mm f/4 was a long telephoto prime for the Contax/Yashica mount, offered from the late 1970s as the reach specialist of the Contax lineup. The Tele-Tessar design delivered its focal length in a usable form.
This is a manual-focus C/Y-mount lens with a 300mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/4. The Tele-Tessar layout kept the long lens shorter and more balanced than a simple telephoto would be. Other figures are omitted where they cannot be verified.
At 300mm f/4 the lens is aimed at wildlife, sport and distant subjects where reach and strong compression are needed. Its aperture supports handheld shooting in good light while a tripod suits longer sessions.
This is a scarcer, larger lens that commands higher used prices. Check for internal haze, fungus and coating wear, confirm smooth focus and clean aperture blades, and inspect the front element and any tripod foot. A C/Y adapter allows mirrorless use.
