Carmarthen Camera Centre is the leading independent camera retailer in Wales, established in 1998 and based in the converted Zion Chapel on Mansel Street in Carmarthen. By 2000 the business had taken over Francis Photographic, and since 2003 has held the largest selection of second-hand cameras in Wales, ranging from collectible rangefinder Leicas and classic Nikon F bodies through 35mm SLRs to current mirrorless and DSLR equipment.
The shop operates as a full-service photography destination: cameras, lenses, optics, drones, video gear, audio equipment, studio kit, and an in-house print and photo centre. They run regular workshops, photo walks, masterclasses and in-store events with brand partners (Fujifilm UK, OM System, and others), making them a hub for the West Wales photography community as much as a retailer.
Every used item is professionally checked, tested and graded, and comes with a store warranty (length depending on item, see their used policies page). They use a clear A-E condition grading system (Mint through For Parts/Repair), and trade-ins are welcomed against new or used kit. For Welsh photographers, Carmarthen is the obvious destination, and worth knowing for buyers across the UK looking for quality used stock from a transparent independent.
Carmarthen Cameras is the dominant independent in Wales, direct equivalent to Cambrian Photography in the North (North Wales) but with a larger used inventory and stronger digital/modern focus. Both are long-trading regional independents with strong local communities, but Carmarthen has built a more visible national online presence through their used stock listings and active community programming.
Compared to MPB or Camera Jungle, Carmarthen offers the in-store experience and trade-in flexibility that online-only operators can't. Compared to specialist Leica/medium format dealers like Aperture or Ffordes, they're broader and more digital-focused. Their structured A-E grading with documented test protocols (sensor clean, shutter test, optical inspection) puts them on the more transparent end of the independent dealer spectrum.
For Welsh photographers, the choice is straightforward, Carmarthen is the largest and most active. For UK-wide buyers, they're worth checking for competitively-priced used stock with clear grading and a guarantee.
