Park Cameras is one of the UK's largest independent photographic retailers, founded in 1971 in Burgess Hill, West Sussex by "Reg" with a vision of providing "good, honest, friendly advice from one photographer to another". Over 50+ years the business has grown from a small high street shop into a two-store operation: a custom-built 2008 Sussex retail centre (one of the largest dedicated photographic showrooms in the UK) and a Central London store at 34 Rathbone Place, opened November 2013, just minutes from Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road.
In 2021, on the 50th anniversary, the business transitioned to Employee Ownership Trust structure, every member of staff is now a beneficiary, driving the family-business culture that characterised the original operation. Park stocks 10,000+ products across new and used Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax and accessories, with strong Leica focus through their dedicated Leica department in the London store (one of only a few official UK Leica retailers).
The used inventory is substantial, with new used gear added daily, all professionally checked and tested, sold with a 6-month UK warranty unless otherwise stated, and free trade-in collection on items valued over £300. Beyond retail, Park operates an in-house Fujifilm photo processing lab, sensor cleaning at both stores, manufacturer-authorised camera repairs, passport and visa photo services, and runs regular events including Wildlife Day and Imaging Festival. With over 75 customer service awards and consistently strong Trustpilot/Google ratings, Park has built one of the most established trust profiles in UK photographic retail.
Park Cameras is one of the small handful of UK independent retailers that competes meaningfully with Wex Photo Video and London Camera Exchange at the top of the market. Wex has more stores (14) and stronger online operations; LCE has 26 branches but smaller individual showrooms; Park has just two stores but both are substantial showrooms with the Burgess Hill location being one of the largest dedicated camera retail spaces in the UK. The custom-built Burgess Hill store is unusual, most independents operate from converted high street units rather than purpose-built retail centres.
Compared to MPB or Camera Jungle, Park offers in-person handling, hands-on demonstration, manufacturer-authorised repairs, and Leica official dealer status that online-only operators can't match. Compared to specialist Leica dealers like Aperture or Leica Store Manchester, Park's Leica focus is one part of a broader operation, they're a generalist with Leica as a strong category rather than a Leica specialist.
The Employee Ownership Trust structure (matching LCE's 2021 transition) is a meaningful trust signal: every customer interaction is with a part-owner. For UK photographers in the South East, both stores are reasonably accessible. For UK-wide buyers, the online operation is well-established with daily-updated used inventory, free delivery over £50, and free trade-in collection over £300. The combination of the long trading history (50+ years), Pro Dealer status across major brands, in-house repairs and processing, and EOT structure makes Park Cameras one of the most fully-featured UK independent options available.
