Canon's flagship 100-400mm Mark II — dramatically improved over the push-pull original.
The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM launched in 2014 as a comprehensive redesign of the original 100-400mm, replacing the push-pull zoom with conventional rotating zoom and dramatically improving optics and IS.
Optically outstanding — dramatically sharper than the Mark I with fluorite and Super UD elements. IS provides 4 stops with Mode 3 for panning. Ring USM. The conventional rotating zoom eliminated the Mark I's dust ingress concerns.
Canon EF mount with 77mm filter thread. Approximately 1640g. Full L-series weather sealing. Ring USM. IS II with Mode 3. 1.4x extender compatible for 140-560mm. Minimum focus distance 98cm — much closer than Mark I.
Available used at professional prices. The Mark II transformed the 100-400mm L into one of Canon's finest zooms. The RF 100-500mm L IS USM is the mirrorless successor. For Canon EF wildlife and sports photographers wanting the best 100-400mm.
