Canon's updated 70-200mm f/4 — Mark II with improved IS and optics for the L-series telephoto.

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM was released approximately 2018 as the second-generation f/4 telephoto zoom in Canon's L series, updating the IS I with improved stabilisation and revised optics. At f/4, it is lighter than the f/2.8L IS II at reduced maximum aperture. Canon EF mount.

f/4 constant aperture. 70-200mm zoom range. IS II (approximately 5 stops of correction). L-series construction and weather sealing. USM (ring-type ultrasonic motor). At approximately 780g. 72mm filter thread. Canon EF mount.

The IS II generation improves on the IS I's four-stop correction to approximately five stops and adds a Movie IS mode for smoother video stabilisation during panning. At 780g, the f/4L IS II is substantially lighter than the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II (~1,480g) at the cost of one stop of maximum aperture — a practical trade-off for travel and hand-held use.

On the used market the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM is a popular L-series telephoto zoom at a lower cost and weight than the f/2.8 equivalent.
