Canon's vlogging-focused EOS M update with improved autofocus and live streaming.
The Canon EOS M50 Mark II was released in October 2020 as an incremental update to the M50, adding Eye Detection AF, vertical video support for social media, and improved subject tracking. It retains the same compact EF-M body with a fully articulating vari-angle touchscreen, making it one of Canon's most capable vlogging-oriented cameras in the EF-M ecosystem. With the EOS M system discontinued in 2023, the M50 Mark II represents a mature but unsupported product line — lenses remain available but no new EF-M cameras will be produced.
The 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor pairs with the DIGIC 8 processor. Electronic shutter burst runs at up to 10fps; with AF tracking the rate is approximately 7.4fps. Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides eye-detect and subject tracking in live view and video. 4K video records at up to 25fps with a 1.56x crop applied to the APS-C sensor, resulting in a combined approximately 2.5x reduction from full frame — 1080p is the practical video mode for most use. Battery life is rated at approximately 305 shots per charge using the LP-E12. At 387g with battery and card the body is compact; a single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot handles storage.
The M50 Mark II's vari-angle screen and Dual Pixel CMOS AF make it effective for vlogging, self-facing video, and content creation in a compact mirrorless body. Eye Detection AF is reliable for stills portraiture and documentary video. The 4K crop limits its utility for dedicated video production — most practical video use is 1080p. The compact EF-M body is lighter than most APS-C mirrorless alternatives; the EF-M lens ecosystem is smaller than Fujifilm X or Sony E but covers the key focal lengths via native lenses and the EF-M to EF-S adapter.
With the EF-M system discontinued, the M50 Mark II is effectively the last generation of this product line; used prices reflect the closed ecosystem. The Canon EOS R50 (2023) is the recommended migration path for photographers continuing with Canon — it uses the active RF mount and provides comparable capabilities in a similarly compact body. Condition checks: vari-angle hinge articulation, LP-E12 battery health, and Dual Pixel AF eye-detect response. The LP-E12 is shared with the EOS 100D and M-series bodies.
