Canon's vlogging-focused EOS M update with improved autofocus and live streaming.
The Canon EOS M50 Mark II launched in 2020 as a refinement of the popular M50. With a 24.1MP APS-C sensor, Dual Pixel AF, and improved video features including live streaming capability, it was positioned as Canon's vlogging camera for the EOS M system. The original M50 was Canon's best-selling mirrorless camera.
Key updates over the M50 include improved eye-detect AF, vertical video support for social media, USB webcam functionality, and YouTube live streaming via Wi-Fi. The 24.1MP sensor and DIGIC 8 processor carry over from the original. 4K video is available but with a significant crop. The vari-angle touchscreen and built-in EVF are retained.
The M50 II is praised for being an approachable vlogging camera with excellent autofocus and Fujifilm-competitive image quality. It is criticised for the incremental upgrade over the M50, the discontinued EOS M system with no upgrade path, and the cropped 4K video. The M50 II was effectively the last significant EOS M release.
Moderate value used. Check the vari-angle screen hinge and touchscreen. The M50 original is nearly identical for stills at a lower price. The discontinued M system is the elephant in the room — there is no Canon mirrorless upgrade path from this camera without switching mounts entirely.
