Canon's updated R50 with new features, continuing the compact vlogging-focused mirrorless line.
The Canon EOS R50 V was released in 2025 as a content-creation variant of the R50, targeting vloggers and video creators with 4K/60fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, and Canon Log 3. The R50 V uses the same 24.2MP APS-C CMOS with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II as the R50, but removes the built-in electronic viewfinder of the R50 in favour of a slimmer body profile. 4K at 30fps is oversampled from the full 6K sensor output; 4K at 60fps uses a crop. Maximum continuous recording time is two hours.
The 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor incorporates Dual Pixel CMOS AF II across 651 zones. 4K video records at 30fps oversampled from 6K, or at 60fps with a crop; 10-bit 4:2:2 is available in both modes. Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ are provided for colour grading workflows. No built-in EVF. No weather sealing. Battery life approximately 390 shots using the LP-E17, body weight approximately 370g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.
The 4K/60fps and 10-bit 4:2:2 recording distinguish the R50 V from the R50: these video specifications enable slow-motion 4K content and cleaner colour grading in post-production. The removal of the EVF trades optical framing capability for a slimmer, lighter body profile better suited to vlogging with the flip-out screen. Canon Log 3 extends dynamic range capture for indoor and outdoor mixed-light recording scenarios.
On the used market the R50 V is a 2025 product with limited used availability. Condition checks: DPAF II tracking in video mode, LP-E17 battery health, flip-out screen hinge, and microphone/headphone jacks. The LP-E17 is shared with the R50, EOS M50 II, and RP. The Canon EOS R50 provides a built-in EVF with otherwise similar stills capability. Compatible with all Canon RF and RF-S mount lenses.
